How do I create a Transcode Preset?

In the Preset Tool, switch to Transcode Presets and select the + icon. Enter a name, choose a codec, and configure the output destinations and transcode settings. You can save the Preset for repeated use.

How do I choose where transcoded files are saved?

Under the General settings of a Transcode Preset, configure the Output Destinations. You can add one or more locations, or enable Place with Source to save transcoded files alongside the original media.

What does Place with Source do?

Place with Source lets you save transcoded files in relation to the original source file. You can choose to place the transcode next to the original, in a separate adjacent folder, or inside a subfolder at the source root.

How do I change the codec or resolution of a transcode?

Open the Transcode Preset's Video settings. Here you can select the codec, file extension, frame rate, dimensions, frame scaling, color depth, and color space. Some codecs also provide additional options, such as video data rate.

Can I apply a LUT when transcoding?

Yes. Enable Apply LUT in the Video settings and select the LUT file you want to use. ShotPut Studio supports common 1D and 3D LUT formats.

Can I change the audio settings of a transcode?

Yes. The Audio settings let you configure the audio output for your transcoded files, including available audio codecs and channel options.

Can I add timecode to a transcoded video?

Yes. ShotPut Studio lets you insert a timecode track or burn a timecode overlay directly into the video frames. You can configure the timecode source, starting value, frame rate, appearance, and position.

A burned-in timecode overlay becomes part of the video image and cannot be removed independently afterward.

Can I add a watermark to a transcoded video?

Yes. Under Watermark Settings, you can add an image or text watermark. You can use the source filename as watermark text or enter custom text, then adjust its size, color, background, and position.

How do I preview my transcode settings?

The Preview section of the Transcode Preset editor displays a frame from your selected source video. Use Select File to choose a video, then refresh the decoded frame after changing settings that affect the image. The preview also lets you position timecode and watermarks.

Can I adjust ProRes RAW settings before transcoding?

Yes. Add a ProRes RAW file to the Preview section of the Transcode Preset editor. Additional decoding settings will appear, including ISO, Exposure Bias, Color Temperature, and RAW to Log. You can preview the adjustments before starting the transcode.

For additional ProRes RAW processing options, the manual explains that installing Apple's Pro Video Formats 3.1 makes the iPhone ProRes RAW processing option available.

Does ShotPut Studio support RAW formats from other camera manufacturers?

Yes. The manual describes RAW decoding support for formats from manufacturers including ARRI, Canon, Sony, and Blackmagic Design, among others.
